by Rachel Turner

What are you going to do if you want to extend the range of your WiFi antenna? The best thing you can do is add an external WiFi antenna to extend the range of your set up.

It’s very inconvenient on your part if your internet connection leaves a lot to be desired. Everything in your computer is slow and if you want to watch you tube, you have to wait several minutes and until the whole program is fully loaded before you can watch continuously and without any interruptions. If you want to transfer from one website to another, you have to wait again for another several minutes until you patience runs out.

These types of performances were common during the dial up internet connections until the wireless type was invented. Today with increase power the speed has gone up with it. But it’s not always the case. There are still areas, especially the remote ones, which are far from the internet sources. You will need to install and external WiFi antenna to improve the performance of your set up.

If your job involves a lot of traveling it’ll be wonderful to connect from time when you’re in the middle nowhere. An external WiFi antenna will help lighten up your day. You will be able to hit a hot spot from time to time and enjoy some company.

There are two types of external WiFi antenna you can choose from. If you only need a point to point application, you can use the directional type it has a stronger and longer range. The dish type antenna is a good example for this. The other type is the omnidirectional antenna. This is the base type antenna. You have one point to several points’ type of connection.  Good examples of this are the rubber ducks and the vertical omnis. Between the two types of antenna the directional type is better.

You can connect your external WiFi antenna either directly to your computer or through your router. If you have no qualms about security problems then you can connect your external antenna to your computer directly. However, if you’re security set up is not good, you have to connect your external antenna to your router.

Connecting your external WiFi antenna through your router will give you a stronger signal than connecting it directly to your computer. You have a choice here, do you want security or stronger signal. You can have best of worlds if you spend more for your security system. You can connect your antenna to the router and get a stronger connection and at the same time install a good software security program on your computer. If you have already a security program and you want to increase its capability, you can update. If updating is not already possible you might as well upgrade.

There are methods you can use to reach hot spots even how many hundred miles they might be by using air cards and USB wireless adapter. But the charges are very expensive. Your best and cheaper recourse is buying and installing an external WiFi antenna.
